4 Simple Tips For Drawing Well
By Tracy on December 8th, 2009Posted In: Blog

The great thing about drawing is that really there is no right or wrong way to do it. Still, people seem to have strong opinions about what is well drawn and what is not, don’t they? Knowing that, I have four basic bits of advice about drawing that I hope you will find useful.
1) Make sure that whatever it is that you are drawing looks like what it’s supposed to be. That means a well drawn dog will not look like a horse.
2) Imitate the masters: Like all the best Renaissance, Romantic, Impressionist, Americana, Modern and Minimalist artists before you, take cues from the work of someone you think does it better. You mustn’t worry about drawing like your mentor(s) because the more you practice, the more your own style will come to the fore and make the work distinctly yours.
3) Drawing well comes almost entirely from practicing. So practice. A lot.
4) It also entails being brave. Brave enough to recognize that there are things you find hard to draw but drawing them anyway.
That’s it. A bit convoluted? Maybe, but I guarantee it’s practical advice. I promise.
Try them.
