3 Money-free Ways to Plug Your Site

Here are three great ways to promote your website without spending another dime.
1. Add your site’s URL to search engines.
If you’re using a free blogging tool this has probably been done for you already. If you’ve bought your own domain, use these links to add your site to the 3 major search engines:
Bing http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx
Google http://www.google.com/addurl/
Yahoo http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/
2. Create a signature.
Mine is:
tracy brady cartoons
http://www.dirtyjobcomics.com
(comics about jobs)
A signature that mentions the name of your website and a link to it, used after comments you make or at the end of articles you contribute, is a great way to put potential readers in touch with your work. Must websites you comment on may offer a means for you to leave your link information but if they don’t, leave it anyway. Write your name and the name of your site at the end of your comment. Interested viewers will look you up.
3. Swap Ads
Make a banner or button for your site and take up opportunities to trade them with other site owners. This takes an investment of your time and energy to make the banners and buttons, to seek out and make friends with site owners and to give up space on your site to display the other owner’s button but it’s worth it. Even online, networking and being known in your community is important. And yes, it’s mostly still a popularity contest.
Be discerning about whom you trade buttons with. If your content is of a traditional religious nature you may want to think twice about having a pornographic site display a link to your site, as they would likely hesitate at displaying yours.
Also, more established websites tend to be reluctant to display newer sites they are unfamiliar with. (i.e. yours) Don’t be perturbed by this. As with most communities, the more effectively you participate and prove your relevance, the better-known you’ll become and the more influential your associates will be.
There are more great ways to promote your site, cost free. Can you think of some?
